Hardened gears get a lot of heat treatment methods, such as surface hardening, the overall hardening, carburizing quenching, nitriding, etc., should be based on the characteristics of planetary gear reducer to consider selected.

1, surface hardening

Common surface hardening methods are high frequency quenching (for small size gears) and flame quenching (for large size gears) two. The effect of surface hardening of the hardened layer, including the bottom of the tooth root, is best. Surface hardening commonly used materials for the carbon content of about 0.35% to 0.5% of the steel, tooth surface hardness up to 45 ~ 55HRC.

2, carburizing quenching

Carburized quenching gear has a relatively maximum load capacity, but must be used finishing process (grinding teeth) to eliminate the deformation of heat treatment to ensure accuracy.

Carburized quenching gear carburizing before the carbon content of 0.2% to 0.3% of the alloy steel, the tooth surface hardness is often 58% to 62% HRC range. If less than 57HRC, the tooth surface strength decreased significantly, higher than 62HRC when the brittle increase. Gear teeth heart hardness generally 310 ~ 330HBW is appropriate. Carburized hardened gear hardness, from the tooth surface to the deep should be gradually reduced, and the effective carburizing depth of the provisions for the surface to the deep should be gradually reduced, and effective carburizing depth of the surface to the hardness of 52.5HRC depth.

The effect of carburizing quenching on the bending fatigue strength of the gear tooth is not only to improve the hardness of the core, but also to have the residual compressive stress on the surface, which can reduce the stress of the tooth's maximum tensile stress region. So grinding teeth can not grind the root part, hobbing to use when the amount of hob left.

3, nitriding

The use of nitriding can ensure the teeth in the deformation of the minimum conditions to achieve a high degree of tooth surface hardness and wear resistance, heat treatment can no longer be the final finishing, increased load capacity. This is not easy to grind the internal gear, it has special significance.

4, want to engage the hardness of gear combination

When the large and small gears are soft tooth surface, the tooth surface hardness of the pinion should be higher than the gear. And when the two are hardened and high hardness, then take the same hardness of two rounds.
